S2S2S will present its last staged reading before closing its doors

by Audrey Liebross

Script2Stage2Screen (S2S2S) is about to end its fifteen-year run. I only started seeing their shows this season, but I immediately became impressed with their professionalism and with their concept:  Presenting fully staged readings (costumes, sets, and props — the whole works) of new plays by both new and established writers.

S2S2S will present its last show, on Friday and Saturday, June 21st and June 22nd, at 7:30 pm, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Desert (UUCOD), in Rancho Mirage. The play is Engagement Rules, by Rich Orloff. It is a comedy with depth, following the intertwined lives of two couples with a large age gap, who have become good friends. Confronted with problems typical for their ages, they must face deep questions about life, death, and morality. Morgana Corelli directs a stellar cast of S2S2S veterans. Miguel Arballo and Phylicia Mason (a married couple in real life) play the young people. Brad Bryeans and Shirley LeMaster are the older ones.

Formed in 2010 by a small group of playwrights, S2S2S started as a vehicle to premiere original plays. As an arm of UUCOD, it has developed into a diverse performing arts organization in the Coachella Valley with the mission of highlighting social justice, families, sexual equality, the dignity of humanity, and the joy and humor of life. Shirley LeMaster, who has been involved with the company for its entire run, has written a separate article about her experiences with S2S2S. That article can be found under “New.”

To bid farewell to the company and to celebrate its fifteen artistically and financially successful seasons, audience members are invited to a champagne reception before each performance.

The readings will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 21st and June 22nd, at 7:30 pm, at UUCOD, 72425 Via Vail in Rancho Mirage, near the dog park. Tickets are $15 by cash or check at the door. They may also be purchased via PayPal on the website: www.script2stage2screen.com .

Will Call reservations can be made at script2stage2screen@gmail.com.

Let’s fill the house and wish the company Godspeed.
